First of all, there is the North Bank trash clean-up and graffiti removal organized by Phil Riggan (Richmond.com) and Tricia Pearsall, both of whom are members of the Friends of James River Park, JROC, Richmond MORE, and on and on.
Volunteers are asked to meet at the North Bank Park/Texas Beach parking lot at 9 a.m. The more the merrier on this trip as it will be a good chance to meet with river stewards and there is plenty of work to be done. There will be a half-mile hike to get to the areas for the graffiti removal and trash clean-up (and a half-mile hike back when finished). Phil said that the trash will not have to be carried out or pulled by rope up to the deck of the Boulevard Bridge — the City of Richmond will pick up the trash. Bring warm clothes, gloves, trash bags, water, snack. More details.
Second, Richmond MORE will be at it again at Dogwood Dell/Pump House Road, just about 300 yards from the trash clean up (although blocked by a canal and train tracks. Here’s more from Richmond MORE:
Great progress made at Dogwood Dell last week, but there’s still a lot to do. We’re happy that we had a great turnout last weekend, but we need to keep up the effort for the next couple of weeks. So what needs to be done? Lots of roots and sticks to be removed from the trail bed. Berms and grade reversal need to be fine tuned. The trail corridor needs to be cleaned up and narrowed. And the hiking trail needs to be finished. If you can come out all day, that’s awesome. If you can only spare an hour, every little bit helps. We have tasks for people of all abilities from first timers to experienced trail workers. So come on out, lend a hand and help us get the trails closer to opening.
