If you’re into urban scavenger hunts, I’ve got the event for you. The Richmond Adventure Race is a production of the Richmond Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau. Described as “the ultimate test of physical speed and mental agility. It requires participating teams to decipher complex codes in order to unearth clues that reveal each new destination. Racers work to crack codes, find planted actors and outwit adversaries, all while vying to be the first to cross the finish line. The design of the adventure has been described as a combination of the Amazing Race and National Treasure, and also tests players’ knowledge of the Richmond Region. The winning team takes home $1,700 and earns the opportunity to donate another $1,700 to the non-profit Richmond Region attraction of the team’s choosing. The 2^nd place team will take home $1,000, and the 3^rd place team will pocket $600. The Children’s Museum of Richmond, Maymont and the Museum of the Confederacy are all past recipients of the Richmond Adventure Race winnings.

$1,700 dollars is a lot of scratch. Not mention scavenger hunt races are all the rage these days. The footprint of the race will be focused downtown beginning at Historic Tredegar Ironworks.
