When our projects fall short financially, when we have our hands out in need of rescue, big corporations are often our saviors. The families behind many of Richmond’s corporate giants are usually the first to contribute to the betterment of our city.

When Venture Richmond needed someone to honor as it dedicated the new pedestrian bridge at Brown’s Island this past Friday, it looked to a man many call the “Father of the Riverfront,” a self-described river rat.
