Come join us for a full week of outdoor fun!
Climb high into the canopy of a tree, walk out an a limb, and soar through the air in a giant tree swing! Kids are always harnessed in and belayed by an instructor while climbing. A little nervous about heights? Not to worry! All of our climbing elements are challenge by choice – we encourage kids to set goals for themselves and meet them, but we never force a child to complete a climbing element. Add in some creative outdoor games, knot tying, tree identification, and friendship, and you've got the makings of a great week spent outdoors!
You can register here for PHSSA; registration for all other schools is through the school/ PTA.
Patrick Henry School of Science and the Arts (full)
5 week program on Wednesdays
*If we need to cancel a class due to weather, we’ll let everyone know by 11:00am, and will extend the program by 1 week as a makeup day.
3:00 – 4:45 on school grounds. We pick the kids up in the cafeteria after dismissal; parent pickup is on the playground at 4:45.
Open to grades K-3rd
Cost is $135 per student
Activities include ascending into the tree’s canopy, limb walking, giant swings, and various other climbing elements. Kids take turns climbing (harnessed in and belayed by an instructor) while the rest of the group does activities, nature exploration, and creative games. Some days, there will be opportunities to climb multiple times, but kids will always get to climb at least once.
Our after school programs are usually held on school grounds, just after dismissal. We work directly with the school's after school program coordinator (or PTA) to offer these programs. Reach out to your school (or to us) to see if we're in the process of setting up a program with your school. We currently have programs in the works at Mary Munford, St. Catherine's, and Patrick Henry School of Science and the Arts.
Here’s how we typically set up our programs:
* For our tree climbing programs, kids take turns climbing (harnessed in and belayed by an instructor) while the rest of the group does games and activities.
* Typically a 6 week long program, once a week, for an hour and 15 minutes each class. This can be somewhat flexible.
* Held on school property directly after school.
*Open to any grade levels, but we prefer to split them into classes grouped by a few grades together (Ex – k-2nd; 3rd-5th; 6th-8th).
* Our minimum per class is 9 kids, maximum is 12. If there is more interest, or you’d like to offer the class to several different age groups, we can do multiple days a week (Ex – k-2nd on Tuesdays, 3rd-5th on Wednesdays).
* We often build a rain day into the program in case we need to cancel a day due to weather (usually just extending the program by 1 week). We can also do environmental ed activities inside if there’s an indoor space we can use.
* Either the school or PTA typically handles registration and payment, but if that’s not an option, let us know and we can figure something out.
